Using the Overview Tab in IBM SPSS Statistics Version 29.0.1

To improve your experience using IBM SPSS Statistics, the Version 1 SPSS experts have created various Tech Tips. This Tech Tip looks at using the Overview tab in IBM SPSS Statistics 29.0.1.  

In IBM SPSS Statistics, you can work inside a single, integrated interface to run descriptive statistics, regression, advanced statistics and machine learning models. You can create publication-ready charts, tables, and decision trees in one tool. IBM SPSS Statistics is easy to use, provides analysis automation, comprehensive statistical tools, integration with open source, and help at your fingertips.  

The Overview tab is a new feature in IBM SPSS Statistics version 29.0.1 that provides a complete visual and statistical overview of your data. IBM SPSS Statistics users will be familiar with the Data View and Variable View tabs. The Data View tab shows data values and labels. The Variable View tab displays information on your variables, including variable name, type, width, decimals, labels, values, user-defined missing values, column width and measurement level.  

The Overview tab provides more information about your data and added functionality. Sitting next to the Data View and Variable View tabs, users can view their data overall and examine individual variables. The Overview tab also provides updates as you work with and change your data.  

Users can quickly see the number of variables and cases in the Overview tab without running a procedure. Measurement levels (Nominal, Ordinal, Scale) across the data set are available. Visualisations of missing data for variables, values and cases are shown. The Variable Report section provides visual and statistical information for individual variables. Users can filter by measurement type and search for a variable by name. The Overview tab also provides updates as you create new variables, define missing values, and change your data.
